The Skinny on Fat

The Fear of Fat is Over!!!

Now that the big elephant is out of the middle of the living room we can all breathe a sigh of relief, ahhhhh! Fat is good! Really!… We need to eat fat, fat actually is important for our health, fat can help prolong our brain life and our lives in general. Do you need any more reason to believe that fat is our friend and not our foe?

I remember back in the day when fat was a no-no! We avoided it like the plague, everything was fat-free and low-fat. But in the long run, it didn’t pay off in healthy dollars. When I was in college I had fallen prey to an eating disorder. Finding out the hard way, that not having fat in your diet can create a slew of physical symptoms, was not a pretty thing. I overcame the “thought” that fat was wrong, only to find that fat-fearing was an epidemic that needed to be addressed.

Without fat our brains can’t fire a neuron to create a thought, fat is essential to create hormones, you have to eat fat to lose fat…What, you say?…This totally negates what we’ve been taught. We are in a new paradigm of nutrition, books are being written by thought leaders such as Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr Dr Frank Lipman and many others on the importance of incorporating fat into every meal.

Now we know how essential fat is in our diets, I want to share some healthy fats that are a must be included in every meal:

  • Coconut oil has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties it’s good for cooking, skin, hair and can even be used as a lubricant.
  • Avocados are a favorite of everyone they add vitamins, minerals as well as glutathione the queen of all anti-oxidants.
  • Olive Oil and olives, supply us with Vitamin E, help prevent heart disease and increase good cholesterol.

Make fat your friend and not your foe by incorporating these wonderful fats into your meals everyday.  Remember, it is just the “thought” that fat is wrong that keeps people stuck in our old ways of thinking. Embrace the new paradigm that fat is GOOD…                                                                           .                                                    .
